How money works on SMP. You earn it by doing things you were going to do anyway, and spend it on land, shops, and everything else.

Jobs

Jobs pay you for actions you perform. Join the mining job and you get paid every time you mine ore. Join farming and you get paid for harvesting crops. You do not have to change how you play, you just get paid for it.

Open the jobs menu with /jobs browse to see what is available, then /jobs join <job> to sign up.

You can hold {{ number }} jobs at once. /jobs leave <job> frees up a slot if you change your mind.

Available jobs

Eleven jobs to choose from.

Gathering

  • Miner paid for breaking stone and ores. The reliable early earner.

  • Woodcutter paid for chopping trees.

  • Digger paid for shifting dirt, sand, and gravel. Pairs well with any big build project.

  • Fisherman paid for catching fish.

  • Farmer paid for harvesting crops and breeding animals.

Combat and exploration

  • Hunter paid for killing mobs.

  • Explorer paid for discovering new chunks, so it earns while you are travelling anyway.

Crafting

  • Crafter paid for crafting items.

  • Builder paid for placing blocks.

  • Brewer paid for brewing potions.

  • Enchanter paid for enchanting.

  • Weaponsmith paid for smithing weapons and tools.

Gathering jobs pay most consistently when you are starting out. Crafting jobs pay better once you have a supply chain feeding them.

Levelling

Each job levels up as you work it. Higher levels pay more per action, so sticking with one job is worth more than hopping between them.

/jobs stats shows your levels and progress. /jobs info <job> shows exactly what each action pays.

Money

The in game currency is euro. It is not real money and cannot be bought or cashed out, it only exists on the server.

Your balance is /bal. Send money to another player with /pay <player> <amount>.

Spending it

  • Land upkeep. Your claim costs 3 per chunk every 7 days. See Land Claiming.

  • Land levels. Depositing into your land bank raises your level and grants extra chunks.

  • Shops. Buying and selling happens through player run chest shops.

Chest shops

There is no admin shop selling infinite goods. Everything traded on SMP comes from another player, which means prices are set by the people playing rather than by the server.

Shops are physical. To buy or sell you have to travel to the shop itself, so where you build matters as much as what you stock.

Setting one up

You need a container, which can be a chest or a barrel, a sign placed next to it, and stock inside.

Only the first line of the sign is required. Everything else can be filled in afterwards through the shop menu, so if you get stuck on the sign, just write the first line and sort the rest in the menu.

  • Line 1: [shop]

  • Line 2: the item name, or auto to use whatever is already in the container

  • Line 3: the price for each item

  • Line 4: buy, sell, or both

To set different buy and sell prices, write them on line 3 as b[price] s[price].

A shop selling coal at 19.99 and buying it back at 10 looks like this:

[shop]
COAL
b19.99 s10
buy sell

Managing your shop

Right click your own sign to open the shop menu. From there you can change the settings and, importantly, open the shop so customers can actually use it. A shop that has not been opened will not trade.

Using auto on line 2 is the easy route. Put the items in the container first, write auto, and the shop picks up what is in there.

A few things worth knowing:

  • Put your shop inside your claim. An unclaimed shop chest can be emptied by anyone.

  • A shop that has run out of stock will not sell. Restock it or players will assume it is broken.

  • Price things against what other shops are charging. Undercutting works, but so does being the only person selling something.

Tips

  • Join a job the moment you start playing. Money earned early compounds into land and gear later.

  • Pick jobs that match what you actually enjoy doing. Grinding a job you dislike for slightly better pay is a fast route to not logging in.

  • Keep a float in your land bank so upkeep never becomes something you have to think about.

Common questions

"I am not getting paid." Check you actually joined the job with /jobs stats. Also note that blocks you placed yourself usually do not pay when you break them again, which stops people farming the same block forever.

"Someone offered to double my money." They are not going to. Scamming is against the rules, but the money is usually gone before staff can help, so do not hand it over in the first place.

"Can I have money from staff?" No. Staff do not hand out money or items, since it would wreck the economy for everyone else.
